Several retirement homes in Grimsby were recognized for outstanding fire safety.
During the council meeting on Monday evening, the fire department presented several retirement homes with plaques to recognize their commitment to the safety of their residents.
New regulations, which will be effective Jan. 2014 will mandate automatic sprinklers for all retirement homes.
Today, all retirement facilities in Grimsby have automatic sprinkler systems and have demonstrated a commitment to fire safety of their residents. Other efforts include improved education and training for residents and staff, as well as in some cases, significant capital investment.
“I commend Fire Chief Cain, fire protection advisor Finnemore and fire prevention officer Pipe for being proactive and recognizing the importance of protecting our citizens,” said Assistant Deputy Fire Marshal Al Suleman.
The following are recognized for their outstanding commitment to fire safety in retirement facilities: Deer Park Villa, Kilean Lodge, Lincoln Park Retirement Suites, Maplecrest Village and Shalom Manor.
