Nobody is looking to Niagara West Glanbrook MPP and Ontario Progressive Conservative Party leader Tim Hudak to go all Dwight Duncan on the WLMH rebuild notion, but some public flag waving is in order.
A few calls and comments were received after the Liberals were panned in this space for their shortsightedness, lack of attention and general ignoring of the whole plan to rebuild West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Liberal supporters said Hudak was being let off the hook.
It’s hard to believe anyone is more on the hook than Hudak these days, but where WLMH is concerned, administration officials who are spoken to regularly say he has been working the proper channels tirelessly and has been for years.
What would not benefit the situation would be emulating former Liberal MPP and Finance Minister Duncan who notoriously cancelled five hospital capital programs, including WLMH, only to announce the pork barrel rebuild of two hospitals in his riding which had already received major renovation handouts from the Liberals.
The established educational and financial benefits for WLMH’s rebuild makes this distinctly different. It is time for Hudak to stand atop Beamers Point and shout across Lake Ontario to the dormant Liberals that 2014 –– not next year or further down the road –– is WLMH’s time.
