Stop by the Grimsby Farmers’ Market for fresh produce, meats, cheeses and wine?
On Monday evening Tom Neufeld, steering committee director for the Grimsby Farmers’ Market, discussed the notion of offering VQA at the market this year. The province recently announced a two year pilot project for VQA wines to be eligible at farmers markets.
“In the past several years, the Grimsby Farmers’ Market has become a meeting place for many of the residents of Grimsby and the surrounding municipalities of Lincoln, West Lincoln and beyond,” Neufeld said.
Everyone seems to enjoy the atmosphere of the Main Street, with people shopping, visiting and sampling.
“This year the market would like to invite two or three local VQA wineries to join us at the market,” Neufeld said. “This would be a great opportunity to highlight and showcase some of our local wineries and their VQA wines.”
Winery owners and operators would supply their own SmartServers, offering small samples to shoppers and wines for purchase. Several wineries have already expressed interest in the pilot project.
“I think this makes logical sense and is something that should have happened a long time ago. We live in the perfect location for it,” said Ald. Nick DiFlavio
Grimsby council supported the recommendation.
