Seek, Serve, Become is the abbreviated mission of students and staff at Great Lakes Christian High School.
Learning to serve is at its core. For many years students and staff have put aside one day each spring to go out into their community to help people and organizations begin their ‘Spring Clean Up’, as way of connecting and serving.
This Community Service Day is also a school fundraisers as students and staff seek sponsors for their day’s work.
This year’s funds will be directed towards a most anticipated upgrading of the library, new student computers and initiating a campus Wi-Fi project.
Several community seniors benefit from students cleaning up their gardens and washing a few windows. Organizations such as Albright Centre, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority, the Owl Foundation, and Community Care of West Niagara have welcomed groups of students and staff for the day to complete a vast variety of jobs. Success is measured by the notes of appreciation received and when students are enthusiastically welcomed the following year.
Perhaps most importantly, students have been reminded after a long day’s work that serving, especially when it benefits others, is always a good thing.
