Zimmerman will not run

Debbie Zimmerman, current Grimsby regional councillor and a fixture on Niagara’s political scene for decades will not seek re-election.

“It has been my honour to serve my community of Grimsby as it’s representative over these past three-and-a-half decades,” Ms. Zimmerman said.

“It’s time to close the chapter on this part of my political career”.

Zimmerman’s municipal career began in 1978 when she was elected as alderman for the Town of Grimsby. She was appointed to regional council in 1989 and served until 1997 as Grimsby’s representative. She served as regional chair from 1997-2003, and has been Grimsby’s representative at Region from 2003 through to the current term.

“As regional chair I am most proud of bringing a state of the art ambulance dispatch centre to Niagara, creating the Niagara Community Foundation, and being the first community in the province to introduce Early Year’s Centres for our children,” Zimmerman said.
