Mayor Bill’s golf wraps on successful note

Mayor Bill Hodgson is going with a bang, at least when it comes to his charity golf tournament.

The event, held in May, raised more than $32,500, with Hodgson announcing today (Wednesday) his discretionary portion of the proceeds would go to the new Town of Lincoln Community Complex. That contribution will be nearly $8,800.

The remain funds will be disbursed as follows:

• $15,000 will remain with the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the tournament and uses the funds for ongoing projects on behalf of its membership;

• $5,000 will go to Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Endowment Fund, the fund named on behalf of the Chamber with Niagara West Community Fund, and;

• Nearly $3,800 will go to grants for various Niagara West charities.

“Over these last three years we have had the privilege of partnering with the Niagara West Community Foundation as well as with Mayor Bill and the Town of Lincoln,” noted Cathy McNiven, Chamber manager, in an email to members.

“ We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mayor Bill for allowing us to use his name and for always being an eager and gracious host.”

The event has been running in its current form for three years, having been the Chamber’s annual golf event prior.

“We are very happy with the success of the golf tournament and especially with the partnerships we have developed over these three years. With that being said, we are proud to report to you that over these last three years,” said McNiven, adding Mayor Bill’s Golf Classic has raised a total of nearly $105,000.
