This morning (Thursday) at about 7 a.m. the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the West Lincoln Fire Department responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Silverdale Road south of Sixteen Road in the Township of West Lincoln.
Initial investigation revealed that at approximately 3 a.m. a 2006 Ford Ranger was being operated northbound on Silverdale Road by a 38-year-old Lincoln man. The driver lost control of the Ford and left the east edge of roadway, entered a rural drainage ditch, came into collision with a tree and rolled the vehicle an undetermined number of times, before coming to rest approximately 20 metres east of the roadway in a field.
The 38-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle during the collision, suffering fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. His name is not being released.
A search of the dense brush and wooded area for other possible victims was conducted using the West Lincoln Fire Department’s thermal imaging equipment and the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Canine Unit. No further person’s were located.
Speed was a factor in this collision, which remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit. Any witnesses with information regarding this collision are asked to contact Investigators at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
