Five contenders seek mayoral seat in West Lincoln

A ton of experience highlights the five-candidate mayoral race in West Lincoln.

JOHN GLAZIER

As a retiree, John Glazier says he will be able to devote “all my time” to being mayor, if elected.

Having lived in West Lincoln since the mid-1980s and having been on council since 2000, he said he has an excellent knowledge of the community.

Glazier said growth in the areas of industrial, commercial, retail and residential all need to be part of the Town’s future planning.

DOUG JOYNER

Incumbent Doug Joyner has served as West Lincoln’s mayor and regional councilor from 2010-2014.

Joyner says West Lincoln’s potential will only be realized through strong, coordinated leadership.

He said council needs to be decisive and use vision to achieve results, while continuously looking for efficiencies in service delivery. West Lincoln has a history built on providing residents and business owners a safe, caring, and prosperous community.

STEFANOS KARATOPIS

Stefanos Karatopis grew up in West Lincoln on his family’s poultry farm.Karatopis has been active playing hockey and soccer on teams that his father had sponsored in West Lincoln, Pelham, and Dunnville.

As an entrepreneur, he operates a home-based computer business and a small-scale poultry and cash crop farm.

He is a member of the Ontario Landowners Association. Karatopis has also recently run in two provincial elections for the Ontario Libertarian Party.

PAUL KEIZER

Businessman Paul Keizer grew up in West Lincoln, and learned early that hard work, common sense could take you a long way in business. After 20 years of experience in developing a successful agriculture business, he created West Lincoln Agri-systems.

Keizer opened Home Hardware in Smithville, now owned and operated by his son, Mike. Business development is Paul Keizer, who also started PJK Construction.

KATIE TROMBETTA

Katie Trombetta served as West Lincoln’s mayor and regional councillor from 2000-2010.

After losing her position in 2010 election, she stepped back for a time as she dealt with the death of her husband and also family wedding all in that year.

She says she is “ready to go now”.
