CCWN starts needed reno

What Doreen Hutchinson started 1967 has never been needed more – unfortunately.

The good news is Community Care of West Niagara is preparing to take on a major expansion to meet that need.

Friday was the official groundbreaking for a major addition to the CCWN’s Central Avenue in Beamsville location. The expansion will allow for management of its food bank all that location for the first time – no additional storage.

Noting that supply and need for food has escalated from 85,000 lbs to 120,000 lbs in the last two years, CCWN executive director Carole Fuhrer said the timing could not be better to get the addition place.

“Reality can bring out the best in people. We’ve done the best we can to contribute to a complete community and this expansion will allow us to continue that,” said Fuhrer.

Mayor Sandra Easton told those on hand, CCWN has done just that.

“This has been a very, very, very well deserved day for Community Care. They have worked hard to push the rock up the hill,” said Easton.

The renovation is expected to be completed in time for the major Lions food drive in September.
