A roll-over single-vehicle accident on Smithville Road last night after 11 p.m. has claimed one life.
At approximately 11:25 p.m., the Niagara Regional Police, West Lincoln Fire and Emergency Medical Service (EMS), responded to reports of a motor vehicle roll-over that occurred on Smithville Road near South Chippawa Road in West Lincoln.
Investigators have determined that a 68-year-old male from Brampton was the sole occupant of a 2008 Pontiac G6 and was travelling north on Smithville Road towards South Chippawa Road.
The Pontiac failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a hydro pole on the east side of Smithville Road, causing the vehicle to roll into an adjacent field.
Emergency services quickly attended the collision scene and determined the male occupant had succumbed to his injuries.
The initial impact caused a power-outage in the immediate area, although service has since been restored.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact detectives at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
