West Lincoln’s MURS project got a $100,000 shot in the arm from Smithville Home Hardware and Building Centre.
The 52,000 sq. ft. community recreation centre will become a hub of community activity promoting healthy active lifestyles, where people of all ages come together, where families and neighbours can gather and interact for generations to come.
Construction of the new recreation centre began in the fall of 2017 and is expected to be complete by January 2019.
“Thanks to a generous community the $1.5 million Together … a vibrant tomorrow Capital Campaign has surpassed the $1 million mark. The campaign will wrap up by the end of the year,” says Chris Freure, campaign chair.
For Smithville Home Hardware owner, Mike Keizer, the decision to support the rec centre in such a major way was a natural one.
“As the Township of West Lincoln continues to grow the new Community Recreation Centre is a much-needed important facility that will enhance the quality of life for all residents. In response to the community growth the Smithville Home Hardware has recently expanded to include a Home Hardware Building Centre adjacent to the store to better serve our community. Growth is important to communities and we are thrilled to donate $100,000 to support the construction of the new Community Recreation Centre,” said Keizer.
