The Town of Lincoln has acquired the property at 4288 Mountain St. in Beamsville.
The move will allow the Town to further its plans to recreate the Beamsville core.
“We have been looking at this site as far back as several Terms ago as part of a new parking strategy but with a greater emphasis on preserving Lincoln’s historic buildings we also recognize the value and compatibility of the adjacent heritage buildings,” said Mayor Sandra Easton.
Coun. Paul MacPherson, who has been very active working with the Beamsville BIA, said it is important for the Town to recognize when opportunity knocks.
“You can’t dictate the timing when opportunities like this come up. This strategic purchase gives the town full control over what is done with the property. When developed it will no doubt enhance our residents and visitors experience in our downtown,” said MacPherson.
CAO Mike Kirkopoulos said the acquisition, combined with the old town hall/temporary museum/Masonic Lodge site gives the Town options.
“Land acquisition in strategic locations like this allows us to control our destiny as it relates to future uses,” said Kirkopoulos.
“Municipalities have a responsibility to look at land in our downtowns and to set up parameters to ensure maximum return.”
