Cheryl Ganann, Mayor, West Lincoln 2022
I recently read a book by George Cuff entitled “ The Mayor”.
My take-away from that read is as follows:
“A mayor must understand how to build trust, build relationships and build a sense of Community”
The role of Mayor is not as straightforward as people tend to believe…
A mayor must navigate the subtle intricacies of local governance while staying within designated lanes of responsibility.
A mayor must learn to operate without perfect certainty, balancing input from council, administration and the public, to make good decisions.
A Mayor must know how to extract value in criticism from both the informed and the uninformed, as both will offer passionate opinions on matters of community significance. Listening with sincerity is critical! Being attentive to what others are stating is a key component of good leadership!
All of those are lofty ideals!
Did I ever dream that at some point in my life, I would be asking for your vote as Mayor of West Lincoln? Absolutely not!
However I read a quote a while ago that said something to the effect that “although our path in life does not always follow the direction that we thought that it might – we somehow end up exactly where we need to be!” I think that is very true for me and my path!
Some candidates may have political aspirations! I have community- improvement aspirations!
Throughout my long and varied community connections to local organizations, local groups and Boards and my 6 years of Council experience, I have worked toward community- building in West Lincoln!
My approach to the various Boards and committees on which I have been involved has generally been visionary. I tend to prefer to narrow down the problem, envision the possible ways to fix or deal with the situation and then tap into all whomever or whatever resources are needed to execute a solution.
My personal goal, if elected as Mayor of West Lincoln, is to rebuild damaged public confidence in local governance. I commit to remaining approachable to the community and to encouraging frank and respectful dialogue with members of Council and Township staff, as we work together building a strong foundation on which to move our community forward, for those living here today and for the generations to follow.
During campaigns, many promises are made by candidates that once elected are unfortunately broken, when the reality of having to adhere to both Regional and Provincial regulations are revealed. We, as members of the West Lincoln Council, must act under those restrictions and guidelines, while ensuring that the best decisions possible are made as we represent our residents.
It is imperative that we listen to all sides of any issue!
It is imperative that we work together, as a team to lead West Lincoln into the future!
It is imperative that we aim to unify, rather than divide our community as we make decisions for all!
