Dave Sharpe, Ward 2, Grimsby 2022

My name is Dave Sharpe. I was born and raised in Grimsby, and I live in ward 2 with my wife Julie and our three kids. When I was young, I went to school, played sports, and worked in Grimsby. I went to college to study Engineering Technology Management, and when I graduated, we bought our first home here, got married here, and I am proud to say that I work in Grimsby again. My children are the fifth generation of my family to live in Grimsby, and they are the third to be born at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. So my roots run deep here, and I genuinely care about our community and its future.

I was elected to town council in 2018 and have taken that responsibility and focused my efforts on getting positive outcomes on the issues that matter most to our community.

-I believe in protecting our small-town character. I cast the deciding vote to initiate negotiations that reduced Century Condos to 4-storeys and increased to 100% parking requirements, I voted against the 7-storey building downtown at Mountain and Elm, and will continue to advocate for low-rise development downtown.

-I made a commitment to accountability and transparency. I promised to make our council and committee meetings available online, and we did, even before COVID put everything online. Although our meetings are held in person again, we continue to stream them live online.

-As a taxpayer, I expect the Town to spend money wisely.

-I became a member of the Joint West Niagara Fire Service because I believe that combining our fire departments makes them stronger, more efficient, and saves money.

-I voted in favour of a plan to set aside funds for our contribution to the new hospital. While community donations have been safely held in trust for many years, no previous council ever set aside any funds for the hospital, but we did.

-We launched Grimsby’s first public transit system, NRT-on-demand. I’m happy to announce Grimsby is the highest user with over 50% of all rides beginning or ending in Grimsby. We are definitely getting value out of the program and have demonstrated high demand for transit in Grimsby.

-This term, I helped negotiate $1.75 million in community benefits from developers for Grimsby on the Lake and I am on the first community benefits working group that will decide which benefits we’ll include, like extending the waterfront trail, adding parking, or features like public washrooms, pavilions, natural spaces, etc.

-I believe in protecting Grimsby’s environment and natural spaces for the next generation. I am a founding member of the Grimsby Green Committee, and a member of the community group Friends of the Forty Mile Creek.

Despite the personality differences on council, we have accomplished a lot. I am proud of my contribution; with your support I will continue to work hard for the residents of Grimsby. There’s 14 days of online voting and 3 days of in-person voting. Remember to vote and Vote Dave Sharpe.
