Lynn Timmers, Ward 4, Lincoln 2022
I am extremely proud of my work in our community and Council these past two terms. However, I believe there is more work to be done!
This last term, as your Ward 4 Councillor my commitments were extensive. Things like forming an Age Friendly Committee and the successful application to the World Health Organization to designate Lincoln as an Age-Friendly community.
The new Housing and Homelessness Community Partnership Committee, which moved the needle in the right direction by setting Lincoln specific housing targets and creating programs that encourage housing providers to step-up.
The ongoing work of the Heritage Committee, designations, interpretive plaques, and the Heritage District Study are now taking place. We are protecting our unique heritage and cultural identity and making sure that heritage and our ‘community feel’ is protected.
My appointment to the new Museum Advisory Committee, a state-of-the-art facility with excellent community events, exhibits and programming.
My support and advocacy for transit, including ULINC and now our affordable and accessible NRT on demand. Transportation not only within our municipality but, also across the Region.
The MOU for acquisition of the BDSS property and the exciting future opportunities to utilize the property to benefit our community.
Traffic safety and traffic calming, and a plan for a new truck bypass.
The launch of the new Niagara Benchlands Tourism strategy to attract tourists, investment, and job creation.
These are some highlights. We did all this while also trying to manage and work through COVID-19 and follow the ever-changing rules, all in an effort to protect our community.
As budget chair I led, and we brought forward a balanced budget with one of the lowest increases in the Region the last two years. We made wise, sensible decisions to keep life affordable, continue to deliver services and invest in roads and infrastructure.
We brought in, with staff over $57M in funding from the provincial and federal government – a truly massive feat, which allowed us to continue to invest in lakeshore protection, youth, and active transportation.
What’s next?
We have some global economic issues ahead of us as we battle inflation and a post pandemic reality. We have things happening across the community and we need to remain focused on resident and business priorities and what we hear coming out of the election.
We must also continue to promote green initiatives, help our agriculture sector, grow our tree canopy, take care of parks and open spaces, and promote a healthy environment. Add to that, making sure we have police to keep our roads safe, and ensure growth that is happening fits our communities and neighbourhoods.
I want to work with Council to promote a healthy Town, a sense of belonging and community spirit.
I am looking forward to meeting residents during the campaign to gather your input and ideas on how we shape our community. I promise to always be accessible and available to all residents of Ward 4 and across the Town. Thank you for putting your confidence in me.
